Cairngorm Solstice Wildcamp Adventure
June 18 @ 3:00 pm – June 19 @ 4:00 pm
A Guided Wild Camping and Photography Adventure on the Cairngorm Plateau
- Hike across the Cairngorm plateau and wild camp among some of the highest peaks in Scotland
- Photograph the sun rise over one of the most spectacular views in the Cairngorms
We will meet at the Cairngorm ski centre carpark in the mid afternoon. After introductions etc your guide David will go over the weather conditions for the day and discuss the planned route. We will also have a gear check to ensure everyone has all we need to stay safe and comfortable so we enjoy our time on the mountain.
Depending on the weather our likely course for the trip will be as follows:
Starting from the carpark we will start uphill, ascending the long ridge of Fiacaill a Choire Cas to Point 1141. With 500m of ascent this uphill push is challenging with a heavy rucksack, but the advantage is that we get most of the ascent done early on.
From Point 1141 we will head south into the Cairngorm plateau. If the weather is good then we will likely somewhere on the mountain above Loch Avon so we can get a good view of the sun rise in the morning. If the weather is less good we may seek shelter and head down to camp beside Loch Avon itself.
When we reach our destination we will make camp; put up the tents, make our dinner and settle in for the evening.
The summer night is short, so we will aim to be out very early in the morning to see the sun rise and get our photos. Depending on how we feel after this we might choose to sleep a little longer, head back out again, or explore further into the Cairngorms before returning.
Distance Walked: Up to approx 16km
Ascent/Descent: Between 600-1000m depending on route and destination
Terrain: Mountainous – rough ground, boulder fields, steep slopes in places
Please note the plan for the day may be subject to change at the discretion of your guide due to considerations such as weather.
