A Storm in the Waters

I've canoed on Loch Maree many times with pleasure, but also a deeply cautious respect. When the winds rise it turns into a lashing maelstrom in mere minutes. The mountains cause unpredictable winds - the topography beneath the water unpredictable waves. Sometimes it feels like a storm is waiting just beneath the water, ready to rise and catch you off guard. Amid the crashing waves and wild, blowing light, it is an energised and wild place to be. But best be ashore when it happens.
