    Artist’s Statement:

In a remote area of the northern Cairngorms, outlying trees of the Abernethy Forest can be found high up in the hills where they have been quietly overlooked for centuries. I was delighted to have the chance to photograph these trees in fantastic light conditions on the very day I first came across them. Periodic rain showers were passing through the hills, driven on a fast wind, and showering everything in a golden light where it caught the sun. It was perfect rainbow weather, and sure enough I caught a good one in just the right place to bracket these pines. I love how this not only soaks the scene in drama but also ignites the colours of the landscape.

    • About Me

Hi, I’m David Russell. I am a landscape photographer, writer and natural storyteller living in the Cairngorms National Park, Scotland. I am inspired by wild places, especially the ancient Caledonian Forests of Scotland. Besides artistic pursuits I am also a qualified wilderness guide and outdoor instructor in several sports. I have led people on trips throughout Scotland, sharing our beautiful landscapes with people from all walks of life.
