Artist’s Statement:

There are rare occasions when the imagining and execution of a photograph pan out precisely as hoped. This was such a time, and made for a very memorable and special day. Having spotted this lonesome pine high up in the hills from a distance, I was eager to make a visit there, as I have a fascination for these hardy trees that grow at the absolute limit of the forest in the alpine zone. After a long walk up through the woods, across the pathless moors, and dodging past my own doubts and anxieties, I arrived just as the winter sun was going down. The wind was brutal on that high slope, but drove the clouds before it over the Feshie hills. A break in the clouds allowed the sun to spill through the gap and find the tree and I, creating a scene that was nothing less than awe inspiring. A truly unforgettable day that reminded me why photography can be so rewarding.
