    Artist’s Statement:

Many of the most memorable and wonderful moments in landscape photography are those which are unexpected. Days that seem to hold no particular promise sometimes turn out to be filled with wonder. This was such a day. I went up to the hill where I so often go on a grey afternoon. Low cloud, some drizzle, the woods looking much the same as they always did. But as I walked the familiar way down to the forest the air around me began to change. As if from nowhere, or everywhere, a dense fog began to manifest itself. The clouds over the hills slipped aside and allowed a stream of pure golden sunlight to flood the woods with shadow and light. Every drop of mist was visible; a swirling galaxy of star like droplets that rushed toward me with every inward breath. The woods were transfused with golden light, and I, glad to have brought my camera along after all, needed to do nothing more than raise it to capture wonder.

    • About Me

Hi, I’m David Russell. I am a landscape photographer, writer and natural storyteller living in the Cairngorms National Park, Scotland. I am inspired by wild places, especially the ancient Caledonian Forests of Scotland. Besides artistic pursuits I am also a qualified wilderness guide and outdoor instructor in several sports. I have led people on trips throughout Scotland, sharing our beautiful landscapes with people from all walks of life.
